‘5 Broken Cameras’ at the MPAC Media Awards

As always, it is a pleasure to be a part of the MPAC Media Awards…the excitement of seeing visual works and artists being honored for their ‘voices of courage and conscience’, people in media making a difference in their portrayals of Muslims and in social justice in general. This year, the Oscar-nominated documentary ‘5 Broken Cameras’ was honored. And I had the pleasure to sit down with the director Emad Burnat. It was a fascinating conversation about how this film came into being, and how it grew to something so much larger, ultimately reaching the Academy Awards. This humble family man from a small village beyond the wall in Palestine had a vision to create something to show the world what life is like in an otherwise forgotten place.
